Jesus Christ rides humbly into Jerusalem on a donkey as the city receives Him with palm branches, spread garments, flowers, and cries of welcome. The scene portrays the Triumphal Entry, the event remembered on Palm Sunday at the beginning of Holy Week. Christ does not enter as a military conqueror, but as the promised King of Zion, fulfilling the prophetic image of the righteous ruler coming “humble, and mounted on a donkey.” The people’s welcome reveals both expectation and misunderstanding: they praise Him as the Son of David, while the Passion soon unfolds toward the cross.
